چکیده

Background: Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a well established method, with numerous described variat ions of this technique. The attempt to minimize operati ve ports has led to the descr ipt ion of a “single puncture laparoscopic hysterectomy”. The transumbil ical use of an electromechanical morcellator to faci l itate extraction of the uterus is f irst descr ibed here, in a ser ies of patients having laparoendoscopic singleport subtotal hysterectomy. Methods: A ser ies of 10 patients were subjected to single port supracervical hysterectomy with transumbil ical morcellation using an electromechanical morcellator. Results: Transumbil ical removal of uter i us ing an e lectro mechanical morcellator was successful in al l pat ients included in this series. There were no complicat ions, and the procedure was performed in equivalent t ime to that taken in multi port laparoscopy in our department . Conclusions: Single-port supracerv ical hysterectomy with t ransumbil ical removal of the specimen is a feas ible and safe procedure.

Advanced gynecological laparoscopic surgery is an evolving subspecialty that requires specialized skills, expertise and equipment. This is more challenging and daunting, especially in sub Saharan Africa. Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSCH) is an advanced gynecological procedure that has hitherto been seen as difficult because of the big size uteri seen in Nigerian women. We present t...

Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy with In-Bag Morcellation in Very Large Uterus

Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LASH) is a safe and fast minimally invasive approach in hysterectomy. In order to extract the uterine body from the abdominal cavity, one condition for LASH is the morcellation of the tissue. The intra-abdominal dissemination of benign and occult malignant uterine cells is a possible risk of this method, which can be avoided by the use of special bags fo...

In-Bag Morcellation as a Routine for Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Tissue morcellation during laparoscopic hysterectomy carries the risk of spreading cells from unsuspected malignancy. Contained morcellation inside a bag is supposed to minimize this risk. The present study evaluated routine use of in-bag morcellation during laparoscopic hysterectomy in a consecutive patient cohort (n = 49). The system used was More-Cell-Safe (A.M.I. Austria). Median age was 47...
